Bayern coach pissed off at referee, Guardiola worried about league title race after Champions League win: ‘Team completely exhausted – don’t know how to recover’

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel was sent off and gave the referee the worst possible insult. Manchester City is struggling on several fronts and coach Pep Guardiola does not know how to proceed.

The Champions League quarter-finals in football did not offer any usual excitement but looked decided from minute one.

Manchester City’s 3–0 win at home was enough of a spine chill.

Erling Haaland could even afford to miss a penalty offered by Dayot Upamecano.

Thomas Tuchel unhappy

Bayern pilot Thomas Tuchel still did not consider Bayern to be worse.

– It is brutal how severely we were punished for the few chances City had, commented Tuchel to AFP after the match.

Tuchel, who took over after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked, thinks the final numbers are not descriptive.

– There is no difference in quality between the teams. It looks like that if you look at the results but the only difference is that they have higher confidence and are in better shape.

– We were on exactly the same level but didn’t even have a bit of luck in either match. It is not enough to manage all your chances. Luck is also needed to win against the best teams. Decisions and bounces must go your way.

Manchester City still get praise.

– We played against Europe’s best team today. They are the team in the best form.

Judge Clement Turpin, on the other hand, receives criticism.

– From the first to the last decision, everything went wrong. Turpin gets the worst joke, concludes Tuchel.

The exit is the third in a row in the quarter-finals for Bayern Munich. Most recently, the Germans fell out against Villarreal and before that against PSG.

Many in the Bayern camp are questioning whether the sacking of Julian Nagelsmann was the right decision.

Manchester City are struggling on several fronts

In addition to the hunt for the first Champions League victory, Manchester City is in the fight for the English Premier League and the FA Cup.

On Saturday, the team plays the semi-final against Sheffield United.

– The team is completely exhausted. I don’t know how we will recover for Saturday’s game against Sheffield, comments Guadiola bt sports.

– It is so demanding. I don’t know in what condition we will arrive on Saturday. It’s tough now.

Manchester City are four points behind Arsenal in the league. City have one game to spare and in addition the teams meet each other next Wednesday.

So there is a lot at stake for Manchester City now and how the next two games go will be decisive.

Favorite in repeat

For Manchester City, the tournament continues in May when the semi-finals are played.

Just like last year, the men in blue are fighting for a place in the final against the Spanish giant Real Madrid.

In terms of play, Manchester City outclassed Real Madrid and for a long time it seemed to go their way.

Two late goals by Rodrygo took the match to extra time with Karim Benzema the only scorer.

A very sour loss for the light blues who are now looking for revenge.

Unlike last year, this time it is Real Madrid that kicks off at home on May 9.

It remains to be seen what City manager Pep Guardiola will do to outmaneuver the fourteen-time Champions League winners from the Spanish capital.

Madonna derby

In Wednesday evening’s second match, Portuguese Benfica visited Inter in Italy. Despite a valiant effort, the Lisbon team could not recover from the 2-0 deficit from the first meeting.

The match ended 3–3, which means that Inter will reach the final with the overall victory figures 5–3.

In the semi-finals, there will be a heated meeting against local rival AC Milan.

The two former giants have been under the ice for the past decade but have now made it all the way to the semi-finals thanks in large part to gentle opposition.

The last time the two Milan teams faced each other in the Champions League final was in 2005. AC Milan kicks off at home and Inter hosts when it is decided.

The winner will face Real Madrid or Manchester City in the final.
