Wildfires ravaged parts of the Hawaiian island of Maui on Wednesday, with the flames destroying hundreds of buildings, displacing hundreds of families and killing at least 36.
Satellite photos provided by the Maxar imaging company show the town of Lahaina, once the kingdom’s capital and the former home of King Kamehamaha III, burned to the ground on Maui’s west side.
The fires did not spare the port of Lahaina, according to city updates, nor did they leave its beloved banyan tree untouched.
