He currently has his position ‘Janet’s Farm’ at the Promised Land Retail Market in the Santa Anita district and is open Monday through Sunday from 3 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon.

Janet, they say you’re a true ‘thousand trades’ woman…

It is that I have worked on many things. My mother taught me to be an enterprising woman. I have been working since I was 10 years old, she sold anticuchos and I would stand next to her to sell little fields or candies. She always managed to help me around the house. And when I started my own family, I had to be a welder, a taxi driver, a collector on the bus that my husband drove, a chicken seller, and since the pandemic I have been selling eggs.

Its main clients are the chefs of the restaurants in the food court of the Mercado Tierra Prometida.

Are you the queen of eggs?

Humbly yes ha ha ha. I’m the egg queen from Santa Anita. I started selling in the cart. I would go all over Ñaña and surrounding districts. Now I have my stall in the Promised Land Market and I sell chicken and quail eggs from Monday to Sunday from 3 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon.

Which one sells more?

Believe it or not, they come out equally. A day I sell almost 40 packages of 30 boxes of chicken eggs and 20,000 quail eggs. It’s that I have my landlords and I also dispatch to the restaurants in the food court of the market.

The secret of your success?

Look, I am a very hard-working woman and I like to do things well. The eggs I sell are from chickens that eat quinoa, that is, they are very well fed chickens ha ha ha. That’s why the flavor is different, they even seem organic. And my landlords realize that, they tell me that they are richer. And another secret is to serve customers well and with love. I always learn about the properties of the egg and share what I know with my landlords.

And how did you become a welder?

Many say that it is a man’s job, right?, but fortunately I was never discriminated against or insulted. They were amazed, but that was as far as it went. Before the pandemic, my mother had a children’s play workshop, like the ones in chicken shops, and the welder always failed us. There was a day that I couldn’t stand it and I said ‘Mom, leave it to me, I’ve seen how they do this’. Happily I did well and little by little I was improving.

Janet, what would you say to your colleague the ‘king of the eggs’ Rafael Fernández?

He may be the ‘egg king’, but I am the ‘egg queen’ of Santa Anita ha ha ha. It is admirable how his business has grown. But luck at work, bad luck in love.
