Ben Affleck and Matt Damon: We’re like an old married couple

In the past, they not only shared an apartment, but even a bank account.

The friendship of these two Hollywood heavyweights is already film-ready: Matt Damon (“Jason Bourne”) and Ben Affleck (“Daredevil”) have known each other since they were teenagers, growing up together in Cambridge (a suburb of Boston) before 1998 the big one Success came with the joint screenplay for the Oscar film “Good Will Hunting”.

Both also took on the leading roles in the drama – and became superstars overnight. Matt Damon told BILD am SONNTAG: “It’s so cool to be able to share this success with my best mate. When we were teenagers, we never believed that we could play Batman or Jason Bourne. It is a childhood dream come true.”

Now they are back together again. The two star in Air: The Big Break (now in theaters), a film about the legendary partnership between then-unsuccessful shoe company Nike and basketball genius Michael “Air” Jordan (now 60).

Damon plays Sonny Vaccaro, the scout who seeks out and spots Jordan. Affleck is the anti-hero, namely “Nike” founder Phil Knight (now 85) – and also directed. Matt Damon gets very emotional. “Ben and I have known each other for so long. We are like an old married couple finishing each other’s sentences. Ben is like a brother to me! I’m really lucky to have someone like Ben by my side in this business.”

In the past, the two had to scrape together every penny they earned for their electricity bill. In the meantime both are worth hundreds of millions, founded the film company “Artists Equity” in 2022 with 100 million dollars to only make films they love – like “Air”!

Ben Affleck: “Matt is my best friend. And at some point I just got to the point where I asked myself why we didn’t make more films together. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy working with their best friend?”
