The US president has praised both Yoon and Kishida for their “political courage,” especially given the territorial and historical disputes between the two countries over the compensation requested by Seoul to compensate victims of forced labor during the Japanese colonial era in Korea.

For his part, Yoon recalled the NATO summit held a month ago in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, a meeting in which he met Biden, while calling this trilateral summit “historic”.

“Strong coordination between Korea, the US and Japan requires stronger institutional foundations. In addition, challenges threatening regional security must be addressed by building a stronger commitment to work together,” he added.

In the same way, Kishida has recalled that it is necessary to deepen the security sector “in response to North Korea”, while he has been in favor of promoting other areas, such as supply chains or emerging technology.

“I would like to express my sympathy once again for the devastating damage caused by the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. To provide relief to those affected, Japan has decided to offer a total of around $2 million in support,” he said. .

Kishida and Yoon’s visit to the United States comes at a time when tensions on the Korean peninsula have escalated both over joint military exercises between Washington and Seoul and continued missile launches by Pyongyang.
