The president of the United States, Joe Biden, extended this Thursday the rights contemplated in the program that facilitates the residence of immigrants who arrived in the North American country as children, known as “dreamers”, so that they have guaranteed health coverage.
The US Administration will modify this month the definition of what is considered “legal presence” so that these people can access Medicaid insurance and the health reform promoted during Barack Obama’s time in the White House, in which Biden exercised precisely of vice president.
Today, President Biden announced that the Department of Health and Human Services will propose a rule to expand Medicaid and Affordable Care Act coverage to DACA recipients.

Already in 2012, during the presidency of Barack Obama, the United States opened the door for these immigrants to live and work “in the only country they recognize as home”, which according to the White House has resulted in “stability” and “progress ” for more than 800,000 recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
Biden believes that “dreamers” strengthen the American economy and that health care “should be a right, not a privilege.” For this reason, he has expanded the rights of the ‘dreamers’, despite the fact that he continues to consider that it should go even further.
“The Administration continues to urge Congress to provide a pathway for ‘dreamers’ to obtain citizenship, which would provide them with the ultimate peace of mind they need and deserve,” the White House statement said. With the current regulations in hand, these people may even be deported in the future if the Government of the day so determines.
