Bill Gates reveals what he wished he knew as a young man

In a speech to university graduates Bill Gates some advice ready for the young adults. He also hinted at what he would have liked to hear when he was the same age as the graduates.

The Microsoft co-founder gave his speech at the Northern Arizona University. Gates himself dropped out of Harvard University after 3 semesters to found Microsoft.

“There’s more than just work”

“One is no lazybonesif you take your time,” Gates said to the graduates and advised the young adults to look forward to their Work-Life-Balance to respect. “Don’t wait as long as I did to learn this lesson,” Gates said.

“When I was your age, I didn’t believe in vacationsaid the Microsoft co-founder during his speech. “I didn’t believe in weekends. I made everyone around me work very late hours.”

“There are in life though much more than just work“Said Gates. But it took him a long time to realize this. It wasn’t until he got older and became a father that he realized it.

Don’t stress

Gates tried to encourage the graduates about this. “You’re probably feeling right now put under pressureto make the right decisions for your career,” he said.

Even if it feels like these decisions are permanent. “You are not‘ Gates said. ‘What you do tomorrow or in the next 10 years may not be what you do forever.’

Friendships and important problem solving

He also advised the graduates to look around friendships to take care of and – if possible – theirs energy into projects stuck, where important problems such as the climate crisis or imbalances in artificial intelligence should be solved.
