After major updates to desktop applications, Microsoft is now adding new AI capabilities to its Bing, Edge, Skype and SwiftKey mobile apps. The chatbot based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 receives a chat history, widgets and more context reference under Android and iOS.

At the beginning of May, Microsoft not only announced the free availability of the Bing chatbot, it was also accompanied by a large number of new functions. These now also reach mobile devices with Google Android and Apple iOS. Appropriate updates are to be rolled out immediately and over the next few days. Accordingly, not all Microsoft accounts are directly supplied with the advanced AI features. But what is actually new?

AI features from the desktop reach smartphones and tablets

Among other things, the chat history available on both desktop and mobile devices and synced via Microsoft account. In addition, the developers have primarily focused on the Bing app focused, which now has new home screen widgets that lead directly to text or voice input of the GPT-4 chatbot.

The app can also be used to start conversations with the artificial intelligence on the desktop and continue them on smartphones or tablets. The same also works in reverse order. Finally, Microsoft announces improvements in voice input and multilingual chats in order to raise the quality of non-English language inquiries to a new level.

Useful chatbot updates for SwiftKey, Edge and Skype

For users of SwiftKey the Bing chatbot is now available directly within the keyboard and helps, among other things, to compose messages with the help of AI. In addition to creating text, the tonality, format and length of the message can be adjusted here, making the alternative keyboard on iOS and Android ideal for creating e-mails. In addition, Microsoft integrates its AI-controlled translator. Finally, the mobile apps of Edge and Skype updated. Browser users receive a context-sensitive chat on their smartphone, giving them the opportunity to ask the GPT-4 chatbot questions about the content of websites or to provide a summary via Bing. New text actions are intended to help analyze and explain places marked on websites with the help of artificial intelligence. For Skype, on the other hand, the Bing chatbot enters group chats to answer inquiries from all participants.

“This is just the beginning of the next 100 days of AI-powered Bing,” said Divya Kumar, global head of marketing search & AI at Microsoft. Further innovations are expected at the Build 2023 developer conference, which will take place between May 23 and 25, 2023.
