Version 4.0.0 of the Transmission software has been released. Transmission is a free, open-source BitTorrent client for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with support for NAS systems. It allows users to download and share torrent files using BitTorrent protocol. Transmission has a clean interface and offers features such as bandwidth limits, prioritization of downloads and an integrated web interface.

According to the developers, version 4.0.0 is a major release, both in terms of versioning and effort. It has been in active development for over a year and has a huge list of changes.

The code has been extensively profiled and improved to fix inefficient code and memory consumption. For example, a stress test starting the Transmission daemon with 25,000 torrents is almost entirely IO bound, requiring 50% fewer CPU cycles and 70% fewer memory allocations than Transmission 3.00.

There’s also a slew of new features like IPv6 blocklists, users can now set “default” trackers that can be used to announce all public torrents, and the web interface has been redesigned to support mobile use. The new version of Transmission you can get here.
