A World War II bomb was detonated in a controlled manner in the Oberhausen district of Holten. There is also a second defusing today.

Two World War II bombs in one day: In Oberhausen-Holten, around 2:30 p.m., a dud was blown up in a controlled manner on a club site on Bahnstrasse. After this bomb “has been processed”, the next defusing begins at the Oberhausen city limits.

After investigations had been announced in Oberhausen-Holten for the beginning of the week, the experts found a dud from the Second World War on the sports field of the Grün-Weiß Holten club on Bahnstraße and blew it up in a controlled manner early Thursday afternoon.

Authorities began evacuating at 11 a.m. 343 people had to leave their homes, and according to the city, another 1,577 people were no longer allowed to leave their apartments and houses after 2 p.m. Kindergartens were also affected by this measure. All evacuations and lockdowns are now lifted.







Second bomb in Essen city area

The second bomb find on the Jagdstrasse also had an impact on the people of Oberhausen. 478 people who have to be evacuated live within the danger zone in a radius of 500 meters from the discovery site in the city of Oberhausen. All those affected will be informed by loudspeaker announcements from the fire brigade.

Update 3:45 p.m. +++ The evacuation measures in the Oberhausen city area will begin at 4:30 p.m. However, further information about the exact time of the bomb disposal in the Essen city area is not yet available.

Update 5:50 p.m. +++ Since several patient transports still have to be carried out in the Essen city area (among other things, an Altenheim to be evacuated), it is still not clear when the bomb can be defused.

Update 6:48 p.m. +++ Just got the message that the roadblocks will be closed at 7 p.m. There are still some evacuation measures and patient transport to be carried out. Only then can the defusing of the dud begin.

The TBO gym at Mellinghofer Straße 114 in Oberhausen is available as a care center for people who cannot find accommodation. Bedridden, ill and frail people who cannot leave their home on their own can call the fire brigade on 19222. A citizen hotline is available at 825-2054 and 825-3050 for more information.

In the outer danger area within a radius of 500 to 1000 meters from the site of the find, 2211 people live in the city of Oberhausen, who are no longer allowed to leave their houses when the evacuation measures begin.

Ripshorster Strasse, Hausmannsfeld, Jagdstrasse, Bleysfeld, Nathlandstrasse/Steeler Strasse, Nierfeldweg/Hausmannsfeld, Bermensfeld/Walterstrasse, Adolfstrasse/Lotharstrasse, Mellinghofer Strasse/Rudolfstrasse, Essener Strasse/Bermensfeld, Essener Strasse/Hausmannsfeld, Brammenring at the TOP Golf roundabout, Osterfelder Strasse/Ripshorster Strasse, Suhlstrasse, Einbleckstrasse/Auf dem Horst, Einbleckstrasse/city limits.

Tram line 105 and STOAG bus lines 185, 957 and SB 94 are also affected.
