Boris Palmer on the migration debate: “Then it will blow up this society”

Mayor of Tübingen warns of overloading the social systems

In view of the high number of asylum applications, Tübingen’s Mayor Boris Palmer warns that the German social systems will be overburdened: “If we use all of society’s resources for the new arrivals, but there is nothing left for the local people, then this society will explode,” he said the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. According to Palmer, who spoke of the immensely high number of asylum seekers, the capacity of the social systems would eventually be exhausted.

According to official information, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees registered more than 80,000 asylum applications in the first three months of the year – an increase of 80 percent compared to the same period last year. At such a high level, one has to question what that means for society, Palmer said. “Then we will have few new workers and a lot of transfer recipients,” he told the NOZ. Palmer said he couldn’t see a real solution to the refugee crisis.
