British actor Julian Sands, known from films like “A Room With a View”, has been missing since hiking in a mountainous region in the US state of California.
The 65-year-old left northeast of Los Angeles on Friday for a trip to the Mount Baldy area and did not return, the San Bernardino District Sheriff’s Office said on Friday (local time), according to media reports. A search was called off due to weather.
Because of bad weather and the risk of avalanches, the rescue teams used to search for Sands had to pass for the time being, spokeswoman Gloria Huerta told CNN. Drones are currently being used in the search.
California has been hit by severe winter storms with snow, mudslides and flooding for weeks. The Sheriff’s Office recently warned against hiking Mount Baldy. The mountain is officially called Mount San Antonio, belongs to the San Gabriel mountain range and is almost 3,070 meters high.
