A 21-day-old baby was admitted to the Balestrini hospital in Ciudad Evita with brain death and signs of sexual abuse. Due to the aberrational episode, the police arrested her parents.
The horror began Tuesday afternoon when Melani Rivero, 24, and Omar Barrientos, 26, arrived at the La Matanza health center with their little daughter, less than a month old.
There, the doctors who admitted her began to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers in the neonatology area and later confirmed that she was brain dead.
According to police sources after that, the professionals detected that the baby had injuries in the anal area that were compatible with sexual abuse. She was admitted to intensive care and died this Tuesday night.
In this context, the arrest of the girl’s parents and a search of the house that they both shared in the San Alberto neighborhood of Isidro Casanova along with three other children were ordered.
There, the investigators from the La Matanza Department seized a bloody sheet. The defendants will be investigated for the crime of qualified homicide.
The deceased baby’s aunt assured that her relatives had told her a different version of what had happened to the minor: “I understood that the girl choked on the milk and arrived at the hospital drowned,” she said.
In addition, in dialogue with A24, he added that the reason for the baby’s death was not explained to them at the hospital and he maintained that he did not know why the couple had been detained.
The prosecutor Silvana Breggia, from the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 1 Specialized in Social Conflicts, intervened in the case.
