Asked about a possible return of Buffy against the vampires thanks to the magic of the reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar answered bluntly. It will happen?

The rumor of a comeback of buffy the vampire slayer it’s nothing new. But this time, the main actress of Joss Whedon’s show (Avengers, Serenity) gives a frank opinion on the question.

A Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot? No way

Saturday evenings in the 90s had a different look than today thanks to a copy of an American format: the “Saturday Trilogy” and the “Fantastic Saturdays” of M6. An unmissable weekly event during which series such as X-Files, Tales from the Crypt or Buffy the Vampire Slayer were broadcast. And the latter, created by Joss Whedon, has marked the minds of an entire generation just as much as its “competitors”, even more for some.

Could this huge success be replicated in our time? Maybe if an unscrupulous producer – there’s plenty – comes along, but if there is a Buffy reboot, it will be without Sarah Michelle Gellar. The young woman who brilliantly played the vampire slayer.

Here’s what she told SFX Magazine (via MovieWeb):

I’m very proud of the series we’ve created, and (a revival) doesn’t need to be done. We have covered the question. I’m all for them continuing the story, because it’s about female empowerment. I like the way the series was left: “Every girl who has power can have power”. It’s perfectly set up for someone else to have the power. But like I said, Buffy’s metaphors were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I’m not a teenager.

Given the quality of the reboots and remakes which are more often catastrophic than anything else, we cross our fingers that this idea does not succeed. On the other hand, if a complete blu-ray worthy of the name could come out and not a butchered edition, many would perhaps be ready.
