Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on October 28, 2022 on PC and consoles. Almost three weeks later, on November 16th, Season 1 of the shooter blockbuster from Infinity Ward and publisher Activision started. This update also included a Battle Pass, the well-known Map Shoot House, Warzone 2.0, Level 1 mode and a prestige system. Since then there have only been minor improvements and extensions.

It’s been three months since the release of this season and after several postponements, the second season has finally begun. For a game that is supposed to offer content over two years (it was actually said that no new CoD will appear in 2023), the new content is a laughingstock. Since there are now solid rumors that a new part of what is probably the most well-known shooter brand is to come onto the market this year, I find it even more worrying what the developers are currently doing with their community. The paid multiplayer area in particular needs a lot more attention.

The map problem

Modern Warfare 2 only offered ten 6vs6 maps from the start. They’re okay, nothing more, nothing less. With the exception of Santa Sena Border Crossing, the maps can be played quite comfortably in all game modes. The border crossing, on the other hand, is probably the worst map in CoD history due to the level structure. In the course of the first season, two classics were added with Shoot House and Shipment.

This brings us to a total of twelve cards. Vanguard alone already had 16 pieces at the time of release and was constantly being expanded. Of course, I haven’t forgotten the big maps for ground warfare and invasion, but they’re taken from the Battle Royale location Al Mazrah and therefore don’t really count.

With the start of Season 2, the developers are now bringing two more maps into multiplayer. Whereby the word “new” is out of place. “Recycled” is more accurate. Players have known Dome since MW3 in 2011. The small card was also added later in the last CoD Vanguard.

Don’t get me wrong, Dome is an excellent map that never lacks action, but I’m still expecting something brand new to kick off a new season.

And that’s exactly what the second map is not. Valdera’s Museum was already included in the betas and is coming back – almost unchanged! At least the structure is absolutely identical. I don’t remember exactly what version it was back then, it seems like the developers worked on the lighting at least a little bit. Oh, and let’s not forget the museum announcements that we now hear in multiple languages during rounds.
