A security camera captured the moment when a 78-year-old man ran over six people, in events that occurred on Sunday night in the public square of Cayey.
According to preliminary information, the man would have suffered a health mishap. The septuagenarian was tested for alcohol and returned 0%.
The wounded were transported to different hospitals, one of them to the Río Piedras Medical Center.
Regarding the facts, the mayor of that municipality, Rolando Ortiz Velázquez, said that they had never experienced anything like this before in the urban center.
He would have suffered a health mishap.
“This has been an unfortunate event, and above all inexplicable, because we have never experienced anything like this in the urban center before. In fact, in the design and reconstruction of the public square, strict traffic safety measures were taken into consideration for the square and surrounding streets. I wish to express our wishes for recovery to those involved, and thank the quick attention of the people who were in the square and helped manage the situation. In the same way, we recognize the personnel of the Municipal Emergency Management Office (OMME) and of the hospital institutions in the area, which have welcomed the victims and are undergoing evaluation and treatment, ”he said in written statements.
