Now there’s a new literacy tool hitting the roads across the district for students in the Clark County School District (CCSD) that is putting books in the hands of school-age children.

The “CCSDBook Bus” was launched as part of an event at JM Ullom Elementary School on the first day of school.

This brightly colored mobile library is a full-size school bus that has been converted into a library containing new bilingual books and has an indoor seating area.

With this new literacy tool, the CCSD Engagement Unit has a goal of distributing 75,000 books to children during school visits and community events.

“We want to make sure that every student has the opportunity to get the feel of a new book and share literacy with their family,” said Denise Diaz, adding, “Getting students reading by third grade is a great initiative from the District Superintendent. school”.

Building a home library is essential to developing literacy and supporting achievement.

The bus was refurbished with the help of community partners like the Public Education Foundation, AKJ Foundation, Subaru of Las Vegas, NV Energy Foundation and Mirage Las Vegas.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the colorful Book Bus at your local school, events, or even while driving down the street! To learn more about this literacy initiative, visit engagement.ccsd.net.
