Guanajuato, Mexico.- Hugo Armando Salinas Cortinas, nicknamed “La Cabra”, was arrested in Miguel Alemán by federal authorities on April 28 after being accused of leading a criminal group of the Gulf Cartel (CDG) in Tamaulipas.

The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) revealed that “La Cabra”, identified as the head of the “Los Metros” plaza in the municipalities of Miguel Aleman, Camargo and Comales, was captured in flagrante delicto, with drugs and weapons.

“Intelligence activities were carried out to locate Hugo “N”, to whom 23 attacks by civil authorities and nine by military personnel are attributed,” it was specified this Monday.

“He is also likely responsible for the transfer of drugs and human trafficking to the United States and weapons to Mexico. At the time of his capture, he had 600 synthetic drug pills, two firearms, two chargers and 37 cartridges,” it was added.

Just yesterday, the entity recorded how dozens of trucks with hitmen circulated in the Municipality of San Fernando, and their accomplices unleashed road blocks near military barracks in Reynosa and Matamoros.

Two hitmen were killed in San Fernando by the State Guard, which reported the seizure of vehicles, including artillery and armored vehicles, the so-called “monsters”, and weapons, reported the Tamaulipas Secretary of Public Security.

Last weekend, groups of hitmen were also captured facing each other, which left three criminals dead and three more arrested.

In the midst of this violence, the head of state Public Security, General Sergio Chávez, asked motorists to travel by day on the roads.

“The most convenient thing is that they travel during visibility hours,” said Chávez, questioned about recommendations for travelers who take advantage of the holiday to go to the border and beaches in Tamaulipas.

Sedena sent 200 Special Forces elements last week to reinforce security in the region.
