The president of United States Joe Biden decided to send the presidential adviser for the Americas Christopher Dodd to Buenos Aires to represent him at the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), to be held on January 24 in Argentina.

“The Special Advisor to President Joe Biden (President of the United States) for the Americas, Christopher Dodd, confirms that he will travel to Buenos Aires to represent the US at the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC. He will lead an integrated delegation by officials of the National Security Council (NSC) and the Department of State”, reported the Argentine ambassador in Washington Jorge Argüello through his official Twitter account. President Alberto Fernández, who in turn is the head of the intergovernmental mechanism, had invited US President Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. Although, as reported by the presidential spokesperson last Thursday, the invitations were within the framework of diplomacy, since by notifying so little in advance it was not expected that they could be present due to agenda issues and they seek to reinforce Celac as an area ” multilateral” for global dialogue.

The president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also confirmed his participation in the summit, in what will be the return of that country to the bloc from which it had been temporarily excluded by decision of his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro.

According to sources from the Argentine Foreign Ministry told Télam, President Xi Jinping will also participate in the conclave, which will take place next Tuesday at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel, albeit virtually.

The meeting will convene the heads of state, foreign ministers and representatives of the 33 member countries of the regional mechanism, as well as observers from different regional and multilateral organizations and their representatives.
