To prevent identity theft, Gmail will offer companies to add a blue checkmark next to their name. A way for users to spot phishing attempts.

If you thought you were done with blue ticks everywhere, especially after the Twitter Blue saga, you are not. The famous certification badges will indeed appear on Gmail in the coming days, Google announced in a blog post.

The badges will be placed next to the names of companies that have adopted the “BIMI” functionality for “Brand Indicators for Message Identification”. Since 2021, this function has allowed companies to add their avatar logo to emails sent and to have their messages authenticated thanks to the domain name and verified brand certificates.

Avoid phishing

These certification badges will allow users to more quickly and effectively identify spam and phishing attempts. In this way, fake emails from large companies that are often victims of usurpation (delivery services, banks, insurance companies, etc.) will be more easily identifiable.

This new feature of Google’s messaging is deployed on all user accounts, personal or professional, since May 3 and should be fully operational by the end of the week.
