Cessna plane with at least 6 on board crashes in Riverside County

At least six people were on board when a small plane crashed and caught fire early Saturday in Riverside County.

The Cessna C550 commercial airliner crashed around 4 a.m. near French Valley Airport northeast of Murrieta.

Firefighters initially said six people died in the crash. Our sister network NBCLA is trying to confirm the conditions of the victims.

The plane departed from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

Details about the identities of the victim and what led up to the crash were not immediately available.

Firefighters put out a small forest fire that spread from the plane’s wreckage.

Earlier this week, a student pilot was killed and three passengers injured when a small plane crashed near the airport in southwestern Riverside County.
