Charges announced against woman caught on camera attacking taco vendor in Watts

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced Friday that Bakersfield resident Renee Latrice Hines, 36, faces charges including use of tear gas, assault, and unlawful possession of tear gas in connection with the attack. . She pleaded not guilty earlier in the day during her arraignment in court, the district attorney’s office said.

The altercation occurred at the Tacos Ortiz stand, located at 1651 E. 103rd Street on Aug. 6 around 6 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Details about the arrestees confirmed by the Los Angeles police were not immediately available.

According to the street vendor, Hines was taking tacos without paying. He pointed out that this has happened a few times in the past, but this time he was denied service.

A group of street vendors have come together to find ways to protect themselves from the armed robberies that many of their colleagues have suffered in recent weeks.

According to LAPD, the woman used pepper spray on the street vendors.

Video shared on social media shows a woman authorities identified as Hines grabbing and shaking the table at the taco stand. At one point, she grabs the street sign and throws it at the vendors. She can be seen swinging violently against one of the people who work at the booth before getting into the passenger side of a pink Lexus sedan and speeding away from her.

Hines remains in custody in Los Angeles. A preliminary hearing in his case is scheduled for August 25.

It is unclear if the suspect has an attorney to represent her.
