Charlie and the other characters seen in previous adaptations of the book on screen will not be present in the film directed by Paul King (Paddington).

Third film adaptation

Hugh Grant’s role was revealed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, where exclusive first images of Wonka were previewed to viewers.

As reported Entertainment Weekly, these new sequences feature Timothée Chalamet in the skin of Willy Wonka. The latter meets an Oompa Loompa (Hugh Grant), trapped in a glass jar and then hires him to work in his factory.

Audiences also got a first look at the characters played by Olivia Colman (an innkeeper) and Sally Hawkins (Willy Wonka’s mother).

Published in 1964, Roald Dahl’s book, Charlie and the chocolate factory, tells the story of a little boy who wins a golden ticket to visit the legendary chocolate factory run by Willy Wonka.

Announced for December 15 in US theaters, Wonka is the third film adaptation of the famous children’s book. Before Timothée Chalamet, Gene Wilder (1971) and Johnny Depp (2005) also lent their traits to the chocolate maker.
