Cheese producer Josef Rupp on the diverse challenges of 2022.
Josef Rupp’s private cheese dairy based in Hörbranz is currently investing over eleven million euros in the construction of a new high-bay warehouse. The 2016 UN business award winner reported on Tuesday in “Vorarlberg LIVE” on whether the project can be completed as planned in the first half of 2023. Another topic discussed with VOL.AT chief reporter Pascal Pletsch was the eagerly observed milk price trend and Rupp’s view of the bigger picture, as he is considered one of the most important ambassadors of the cheese region of Vorarlberg.
“The craziest and most challenging year of my entire career”
Corona, price development, supply chains: The Vorarlberg cheese manufacturer Rupp has not been unaffected in recent years. “I’ve been with the company for 40 years. 2022 was definitely the craziest and most challenging year of my entire career. So many unforeseen things happened all the time,” says Managing Director Josef Rupp on “Vorarlberg LIVE”.
The price trend was also challenging last year. “The war in Ukraine caused raw material prices to go out of control. That also led to high milk prices. Now they’re going down again,” says Rupp.
The whole show
That is why he is basically satisfied with the past year. “It was a great performance by the employees,” emphasizes the managing director. One advantage is definitely that it is a family business. “Long-term thinking is currently playing an even greater role.”
The new year 2023 is now easier to plan than the past year.
