Closures on several sections of the BQE highway

Drivers traveling through Queens and Brooklyn this weekend may face traffic congestion due to repairs on a major highway.

Large sections of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway are closed this Saturday and Sunday for repair work.

Arrangements are ongoing and will be completed on Monday around 2am.

Throughout the weekend, the Queens-bound BQE Highway will be completely closed from Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street.

The work focuses on placing concrete and adding reinforcing steel bars in the sections near Clark and Grace Court streets.

The Department of Transportation reported that this is part of a critical short-term project to extend the life of the BQE.

This is one of the busiest highways in the City, with around 130 thousand vehicles that use it daily.
