CDMX.- In an attempt to change the course of the country in 2024, politicians, businessmen, academics, doctors, feminists, activists, environmentalists, and even athletes launched the “Collective for Mexico” movement.

Without directly mentioning Morena or President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, those who make up the proposal warn that Mexicans suffer from arbitrariness in the exercise of power, the manipulation of the truth, the use of poverty and hatred for not thinking alike.

However, they point out, prior to the 2024 presidential election, a large majority of the population is outraged by the actions of the parties, the growing militarism, the deterioration of services and institutions, the attacks on science, the weakening of political and social counterweights and blows to democracy.

“Mexicans suffer arbitrariness in the exercise of power, discretion in the application of public resources, manipulation of the truth, lack of services, political use of poverty, violence and impunity,” said lawyer Diego Valadés, who was one of event speakers.

“Let’s change the course, let’s do it through institutions that restore the rule of law, equality, trust, coexistence in peace and well-being, and the democratic loyalty of the rulers,” he said.

In a room at the World Trade Center, before nearly 500 people, representatives of various social sectors, Valadés indicated that this movement is a sign of the pluralism and variety of visions that Mexico has, and that they must be taken into account.

“One-dimensional and unidirectional visions contradict democracy, it is only required to think the same where the right to freedom was shipwrecked, no Republic has prospered when conformism or defeatism prevails, the negative is surmountable and the positive can be improved,” he stressed.

The event was attended by former rectors of the UNAM, former directors of the National Polytechnic Institute, former leaders of business leadership and former federal officials.

Miltantes and leaders of various parties, acting legislators, former Olympic medalists and leaders of social organizations also reappeared.

The senator of the Citizen Movement, Patricia Mercado, affirmed that Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas had been working for more than a year together with about twenty people on the document “Starting Point. A New Vision of the Country”, which is endorsed by him, but did not know why Did not assist.

However, he trusted that the former presidential candidate would be included in the state meetings and in the preparation of the final document.

He said that the intention is for the proposal to be taken into account by the political parties as a reference in the public debate towards the 2024 election.

But, he clarified, this does not mean that those who are in this group seek to support a party or presidential candidate.
