Lima, May 7 The Peruvian Foreign Ministry reported this Sunday that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (Acnur) have installed an orientation center for migrants who are on the country’s border with Chile to improve your situation.

Through a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that after the migration crisis developed in recent weeks on the southern border, where hundreds of migrants, the majority Venezuelans and Haitians, were stranded, various coordination actions are being carried out. with organizations and foreign ministries of other states.

“The UNHCR and IOM offices in Tacna (a Peruvian city near the border with Chile) have implemented an orientation center for migrants, in order to establish regular, orderly and safe migration,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Likewise, these offices in Tacna are developing a plan, in coordination with the regional authorities, so that irregular migrants who were occupying public spaces in that city are transferred to the shelters that have been identified to receive them.

In the same statement, they also refer to the humanitarian flight that left this Sunday morning from the Chilean city of Arica with 115 Venezuelan migrants back to their country.

“This first humanitarian flight that deals with the situation on the southern border constitutes an important advance in the efforts being made to solve this problem, and a course of action that will continue to be coordinated with the countries involved, as evidenced at the meeting of Vice Ministers of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, held on May 3,” he said.

The Peruvian Foreign Ministry indicated that none of the people on this flight were in Peruvian territory, but that they are coordinating actions with the Venezuelan and Chilean authorities.

“The Venezuelan consular authority is carrying out the registration of the citizens of their country who are located in Tacna and who wish to voluntarily return to Venezuela, also attending to their documentary situation,” he added. EFE
