Against the background of the war against Ukraine, the news is shocking. The BND has highly sensitive knowledge about ours security strategy and those of our allies collected. Imagine if this information fell into the wrong hands.

Russia’s president is himself a learned one secret service man. He knows how valuable it is to have as complete a picture of the situation as possible about the enemy. And Germany has been an opponent of the Russian government since the arms deliveries to Kyiv, Moscow has left no doubt about that.
It is now particularly important to recognize the full extent of the espionage affair and to identify threats, also on German soil. There is already great concern about our critical infrastructure. Gas lines, power grids – all lifelines of modern society are easy to cut. That did the blasting Nord Stream 1 pipeline and the mysterious attack on the German railway network. Even if Russian participation has not been proven here, they do show their great vulnerability to acts of sabotage.

the armed forces should be strengthened with a “turning point” and a lot of money in order to be prepared for a war in Europe. The same must apply to the German secret services. Therefore, the espionage case should also unleash a debate about the performance and state of the services. They can only protect Germany if they are perfectly positioned.
