On January 8th, the cathedral music brought Antonio Vivaldi’s “Magnificat” and “Gloria” to the audience, who came in large numbers from all over the country, in the fully occupied cathedral

After the Christmas television service, where the cathedral choir and orchestra performed the “three-tone mass” by the 19th-century Feldkirch choirmaster Philipp Schmutzer. performed, DKM Benjamin Lack set another musical highlight at the end of the Christmas season: a musical meditation with the “Capella St.Nicolaus”. In baroque style, emphasis was placed on lightness and expressive interpretation of the text. The approximately 20 singers succeeded convincingly in the clear diction of the conductor, supported by the cathedral music. The brilliant singers Birgit Plankel, soprano Martina Gmeinder, mezzo-soprano performed the high art of baroque coloratura in duets and solo arias. The women were supplemented by male voices, later added by Vivaldi himself, with Clemens Breuss, tenor André Sesgör and bass as soloists.

Between the two choral works, the cathedral organist Johannes Hämmerle shone with the performance of the Virtuoso Concerto by Giovanni Battista Sammartini. All in all, the soloists, choir and orchestra offered an eventful concert. The audience thanked him and expressed his enthusiasm with prolonged applause.
