Outrageous! While the whole world is (quite rightly) looking at Ukraine or worrying about high inflation, mostly young people in the climate protection movement continue to steadfastly remind of the climate catastrophe that for most people is still in the distant future or which they think they are may never occur. Other issues are simply more pressing and immediate. In addition: War, Corona or high gas costs can be solved in the short to medium term. The climate crisis is different. She stays. And she’s getting worse.

In the face of these enormous challenges, many people stick their heads in the sand, are anxious or overwhelmed. How many crises can you solve at the same time? When is it too much? Because, no doubt, saving the planet is too big a task, too big for some. It’s better to keep your feet still.

However, with their disruptive actions in museums, their sticking on the streets and blockades of pipelines, among other things, climate activists worldwide remind that the current means are not sufficient to stop the climate catastrophe. A small, radical minority holds up a mirror to the majority and makes it clear loud and clear that “business as usual” cannot go on. What matters to the majority, however, is: does it have to be? Doesn’t that damage the goal? Or also: We already have enough on our minds, we can’t use the “climate stickers” now too!

That may well be an understandable reaction. But people can question their emotions and their attitude – and eventually change them. At least for this, the civil disobedience of the climate protection movement remains correct and necessary.
