At the beginning of the year, Intel completed its range of processors from the 13th Core i generation. However, the technical differences to the Core i-12000 are small, some processors even only received a small clock increase. The situation is similar with the chipsets.

At the turn of the year 2022/23, the B760 and H770 replaced the predecessors B660 and H760 in the middle price segment. Mainboards with the high-end variant Z790 have been available since autumn of last year, because they went on sale at the same time as the overclockable Core i-13000K processors. For cheap boards, however, Intel leaves it with the H610 chipset, which is around a year old.

For the test, we brought four motherboards with the B760 and Z790 to the c’t laboratory for 100 to 250 euros. These include the Gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4 and the Asrock B760M PG Riptide, the cheapest B760 boards for DDR4 and DDR5 RAM at the time of selection. As a special feature, the MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI DDR4 offers four digital display connections. The Asus Prime Z790-P WIFI with Z790 chipset is suitable for overclockers.
