There are increasing signs that Noah Mbamba will switch to Bayer Leverkusen after the season. Belgium’s ‘Nieuwsblad’ reports that the 18-year-old defender from FC Brugge will be the Werkself’s first summer signing. A contract has already been drawn up.

A fee is not due as Mbamba’s contract with the Belgians expires. The ‘Nieuwsblad’ also mentions Manchester City, FC Chelsea and FC Barcelona as interested parties, but Bayer was apparently able to assert itself against the top-class competition – probably because the talent in Leverkusen beckons more match practice.

Six wanted

At the Werkself, a squad place in defensive midfield will become available by summer at the latest when Charles Aránguiz (33) leaves the club. Mbamba can play on the six as well as in central defence.

The 18-year-old is a Belgian U19 international and comes from the Bruges youth team. He has been on the pitch 25 times for the professionals of his home club, but Mbamba is still struggling this season. The jewel in the Jupiler Pro League has only played two seasons.
