Broward County police have arrested two people accused of stealing a watch worth $150,000 from a jewelry store in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Aurel Dobos, 48, and Adina Buchuc, 41, were arrested at Miami International Airport last Wednesday and are being connected to similar crimes that have occurred across the country, local media reported.

The event occurred at Robinson’s Jewelry, located at 820 E Las Olas Blvd., last April and thanks to the jewelry surveillance video.

The piece in question is a Patek Philippe watch valued at more than $150,000.

“They looked good; they were well dressed, they had Rolex on. She was wearing a big hat, she said they were from Italy; they looked like tourists to me,” said Andrew Robinson, the store’s owner.

“Thank God they were able to catch these two, put them in jail and they can’t do it to someone else because it hurts,” added the rueful owner, who is glad his video systems have helped identify the thieves.

Dobos and Buchuc were arrested just before taking a flight, associated with a similar crime in California, and remain in jail.

Their bail is set at $10,000, but they will have to show that the money they use for bail was earned legally.

In February, a thief stole five Rolex watches from a jewelry store in Aventura, Florida, with an approximate value of $177,000 dollars.

The robbery occurred at the International Jewelers Exchange store, located at 19725 Biscayne Blvd., south of Aventura Mall.

Investigators are unclear how the individual managed to open the locked drawer that protected the five luxury Rolex watches. The man took the valuable cargo with him, despite being recorded by security cameras.
