Cuba among the worst countries with educational freedom

HAVANA.-Cuba is one of the first countries with the worst educational freedom, according to the research “Freedom of education in the world”, presented this Tuesday in Spain by the CEU San Pablo University, in addition to Havana, the ranking includes the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia.

Cuba is the only Latin American country that is in the assessment that includes those with the lowest average value in the Educational Freedom Index, the web portal reports. Radio Television Martí.

“There are four countries in which practically the entire system is public, there is no private or non-governmental initiative, and, therefore, they are clearly behind,” explained Gonzalo Sanz, professor at the CEU San Pablo University and main author of the investigation.

Regarding the repercussions of this analysis in the countries, Sanz indicated that those nations with educational breadth are part of the most developed schemes. They stand out economically and culturally; with a higher level of press and political freedom, and they have even higher levels of happiness or satisfaction among their population.”

Cuba among the most dictatorial in the world

It is not the first time that Cuba has received this type of mention. In the month of November, Cuba’s position among the least democratic countries in the world was ratified due to the dictatorial regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel, according to the Global State of Democracy 2023, presented this Thursday in Stockholm by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).

The data provided by IDEA show the island at the bottom of the lists along with authoritarian regimes such as Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Eritrea, Syria, Afghanistan and Venezuela

On this occasion, IDEA divided the analysis into categories, instead of classifying the regimes on a general basis, thus detailing that free and public political participation does not exist in Cuba. Occupying position 165.

Due to the dictatorship that governs Cuba, the list includes the dictatorship in line 149 measuring government representativeness, in human rights it is in position 144 and in rule of law in 151.
