Several Cuban mothers have expressed their concern in the networks due to the lack in the polyclinics of the essential pentavalent vaccine for the immunization of their babies against various diseases.

“I make this publication as a mother concerned about the health and well-being of my baby. At my 26 de Julio Polyclinic in the Playa municipality there has been no Pentavalent vaccine for at least 1 month. The explanation is that it is missing. I have been able to verify with other mothers that the same thing happens in other municipalities of Havana”, denounced on Facebook Lissette Castro Vega.

This Cuban mother fears the delay in the vaccination scheme for babies because “we all know its importance in immunization against terrible diseases”

“For me, the day of vaccination is a long-awaited day, because I know that, although it may cause pain or fever, my baby will be safer and safer. But … arriving and finding that there is NO vaccine for him … that is worrying, to say the least, ”she added.

Castro Vega wondered what the extent of this shortage is on the island and when it will be resolved.

“We all know how bad things are, but until now this issue was secured and it was a peace of mind for all families with young children. My questions are: Where is the Pentavalent vaccine missing? In the province? In the country? Are the vaccines produced here or are they imported? When is this problem going to be solved? ”, This mother concludes her post.

Several mothers have confirmed the shortage of this vaccine and shared Castro Vega’s concern in the comments to his post.

“Since the pandemic, vaccines are behind schedule. If the one they put on at birth, they put it on my youngest girl for about a month because she didn’t have it. And the eldest has the one that they put in 4th-5th grade and she already goes to secondary school and there is none. Trusting in God is what we have left”, lamented Havana mother Arianna Ranzola.

“That’s how they all are. Mine is going to be 2 years old and it has not yet been possible to put on the last reactivation of the penta that was due a year and a half. According to my doctor at the office, she should enter in September, so be aware of that and trust that our babies are covered with the blood of Christ,” said Analís González Santana.

Publications by Cubans in the Facebook group Cuban Mothers in Cuba and around the World confirm that this worrying circumstance extends to other parts of the island.

“Good night to all mommies. I am from Guantánamo, my girl is 7 months old when she is 8 months old and she has not yet been vaccinated with the pentavalent that corresponds to 6 months; since they say there are none in the country. I would like to know if there are other moms in the same situation and what explanation her health area has given her, ”reads a March publication by mother Yaime Delgado.

The pentavalent or quintuple cellular vaccine is a combined vaccine that protects against 5 diseases: diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, Haemophilus influenzae type b and hepatitis B, explains the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

At the beginning of last June, Another Cuban mother had already publicly protested the lack of pentavalent.

“Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, what about the vaccine for children? What about insulin for diabetics?” asked Isleibis Rodríguez Leiva, in a text posted this Thursday by activist Masiel Rubio on her profile From Facebook.

The outraged mother said that her child should receive the pentavalent vaccine at four months of age and has already turned six months old, on May 13, and they have not yet received it.
