San Juan.- According to the police summary released this Sunday, up to eight murders were recorded this weekend in Puerto Rico.
The first violent death occurred on Friday when a 21-year-old man was murdered in front of the Puma gas station, in the municipality of Caguas in the north of the Caribbean island.
According to a statement released by the authorities, at 4:08 p.m. local time (20:08 GMT) a call through the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted the uniformed officer about shots at the aforementioned place.
When the agents arrived at the scene, they found the young man with several gunshot wounds and he died while receiving medical attention at the Mennonite Hospital in Caguas.
On Saturday, the Puerto Rico Police reported that four people were shot at 5:05 p.m. (21:05 GMT) in the municipality of Cupey, in the north of the island.
Later, a statement from the authorities explained that two of the injured, a 17-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man, died while receiving medical assistance at a hospital.
Also on Saturday, the murder of a man shot was reported in an area known as El Hoyo of the April Garden Apartments residential complex, in Las Piedras, in the east of the Caribbean island.
The fifth violent death was during the afternoon of Friday, the Puerto Rican authorities reported on Saturday that a 42-year-old man was murdered in Naranjito, a municipality in the center of the island.
The next crime occurred this Sunday when a 37-year-old man was killed and two people were shot in a pizzeria at 00:09 local time (4:09 GMT) in Río Grande, in the north of the Caribbean island.
The seventh murder was on Sunday when the discovery of the lifeless body of a man was reported during the early hours of the morning on Highway 10 in the Tibes neighborhood in the southern municipality of Ponce.
The deceased had apparent bullet wounds on his body and has not yet been identified by the Police.
The eighth violent death occurred on Sunday when at 7:31 local time (11:31 GMT) a 17-year-old boy was shot to death and two men were shot behind an establishment in Isla Verde, in the metropolitan area of northern Puerto Rico.
Most of the murders in Puerto Rico are related to settling scores between criminal groups and those linked to drug trafficking.
