The Unreal Engine has been a popular basis on Youtube, Reddit and Co. for many years to let well-known brands shine in a new guise. You can really argue about the stylistic implementation of well-known brands like Zelda, Mario or Sonic. But again and again there are interesting experiments, which can convince visually. For example, how would Dark Souls 3 in the Unreal Engine 5 look? This question is currently answered by a modder named “Jonx0r“. When learning the Unreal Engine 5, he managed to port components of the third part of the Souls series to the Unreal Engine 5.

In the YouTube video for the project, the modder starts in the Cemetary of Ash. From here we see bit by bit what a huge leap one would make graphically from the 2016 title.
In addition to the high visual quality, it is noticeable that the lighting gives the Unreal variant of the environment a completely different look. While the original has a somber tone drenched in beige, the areas rendered in the video appear far more tangible. This coherent presentation distinguishes the prototype, for example, from more or less respectable experiments, of which there are dozens. The Firelink Shrine is also more than impressive in the video.
The comments on Youtube and Reddit always emphasize that a remasters from Dark Souls 3 (buy now €29.99 / €53.99 ) should ideally look like this. Incidentally, the modder noted that he would like to continue tinkering with the prototype. However, this should primarily serve your own learning experience.
