Two months after the death of the former child star, his brother unveils the song Hurts to Love You to salute his memory.
American singer Nick Carter, known for being part of the Backstreet Boys, unveiled a title on Wednesday in tribute to his younger brother Aaron Carter. The latter, a former child star who fell prey to the tabloids, was found dead at his Californian home last November, at the age of 34.
In this new title entitled Hurts to Love You (“It hurts to love you”), Nick Carter evokes their conflicting relationship and the helplessness of seeing a loved one in difficulty:
“I always hoped that your tomorrows would be better than the days before / I hoped that you would find a path to follow / A place to be happy in this world”, he sings in particular.
On Instagram, the 42-year-old artist publishes a video in which he appears in front of a wall on which images of the two singers are projected when they were children. “We all have someone in our life who we will love no matter what they do and no matter how much it hurts,” he wrote in the caption.
Millions of albums sold
Born on December 7, 1987 in Tampa, Florida, Aaron Carter began his musical career at the age of 7. He was 9 years old when he released his first album, Crush on Youin 1997. Released in September 2000, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) sold three million copies in the United States and immediately propelled it into the pantheon of teens and tweens.
He assured the first parts of the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears. In 2001, his album Oh Aaronin which he sings a duet with his brother, had been certified platinum.
Descent into hell
The success faded with adulthood, and Aaron Carter’s life took a darker turn: the Guardian reported drug addiction. AFP mentions a drug treatment in 2011.
In 2013, falling prey to the tabloid press, riddled with debts, including tax debts, he declared himself bankrupt. He had also been in a lot of trouble with the authorities, mostly for possession of narcotics and dangerous driving.
His relations with his family had also deteriorated: according to the BBC, Nick Carter had obtained a removal order against his younger brother in 2019, who according to him threatened to kill his wife, then pregnant. Aaron Carter said he was “stunned”, assuring “do not want to harm anyone”.
Group and solo career
Aaron Carter had a son with his fiancée Melanie Martin in November 2021. Last September, he confided in the Sun that they had lost custody of it and that he had entered a new rehab program to get it back.
Nick Carter, meanwhile, found success in the 1990s with the Backstreet Boys. The group is still active thirty years later, but has released three solo albums since 2002.
