CDMX.- Nine months after the death of Debanhi Escobar and without yet knowing those responsible, Mario Escobar and Dolores Bazaldúa, the young woman’s parents, demanded a purge of the Nuevo León State Attorney General’s Office, as well as training its officials in matters of gender.

In an interview with REFORMA and as a balance of their visit to CDMX, the teachers regretted that Nuevo León occupies the first places in femicides.

According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in its report on Violence against women, it was recorded that four of the first six Municipalities with the highest rates of femicide in the entire Country are in Nuevo León.

– What do these figures tell you?

“It is unfortunate to listen to them, it is unfortunate that Nuevo León is like this. Here it shows us that there must be a cleanup in the Nuevo León State Prosecutor’s Office and later, after that, they have to train them in gender perspective so that they are trained people,” urged Mario Escobar, the young woman’s father.

Debanhi’s mother, Dolores Bazaldúa, encouraged the families who are also victims of the institutions to raise their voices against the negligence of the authorities.

“Is it tiring? Yes, it is tiring, but we have to do it because thinking that the Prosecutor’s Office is going to do the job, the truth is that they do not give it the importance that a situation like the one that is happening to us should have,” he said.

Debanhi’s parents went this week to the Attorney General’s Office, in Mexico City, to find out about the progress of the investigation, however they acknowledged feeling uneasy at not yet having an answer about those responsible for the death of their daughter.

“That was our feeling with Rosa Icela Rodríguez (head of Public Security), that she tell the President, that he help us to be able to speed up this case because it has already been nine months,” said Escobar.

He recalled the case of Ariadna in Morelos and the versions confronted between the Prosecutors of the entity and Mexico City.

“The disastrous Prosecutor’s Office of Morelos made the same statements as those of Nuevo León, but when the FGR confirms that it was a femicide, they begin to work on it and they already see it with a gender perspective,” she explained.

“In that sense, we are going calmly, for us all that hope that we are placing in them will be very important.”

Debanhi’s father pointed out that the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office has an open folder for cover-up and false information, but that their priority is to already have those allegedly responsible for Debanhi’s femicide.
