PARIS.- Gérard’s family Depardieu denounced today, December 17, a plot against the famous French actor, in the midst of controversy after the revelation of some sexist comments by the interpreter.
“Of course, we are often surprised by Gérard’s comments, but our father/grandfather/uncle is being subjected to an unprecedented machination,” several members of his family, including his daughter, actress Julie Depardieu, wrote in a published column in the weekly Sunday Newspaper.
Family outrage
Likewise, the family reported collective indignation against the actor and assured that – in private – the artist is extremely modest and delicate.
In December 2020, justice charged the 74-year-old actor with rape and sexual assault on actress Charlotte Arnould, something that the actor denies.
Since then, a dozen women have accused him of sexual violence in the press, including the actress Hélène Darras. The justice system is investigating his complaint filed on September 10 for facts that are in principle prescribed.
Added to this is the recent broadcast of a documentary on French public television that closely shows Depardieu’s inappropriate behavior with women during filming.
On December 15, French Culture Minister Rima Abdul-Malak said Depardieu’s behavior embarrasses France.
Depardieu is a legend of French cinema like Alain Delon or Brigitte Bardot, with a prolific career of more than 200 films, also plagued by excesses and scandals.
