Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman was eliminated today in the first round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid after falling against Frenchman Hugo Grenier 7-5, 6-4. On the other hand, in the women’s singles table, there was also an Argentine defeat, as Nadia Podoroska fell to the German Laura Siegemund.

Schwartzman, relegated to 72nd place in the ATP world ranking after a weak start to the season, continued his bad moment and fell to the French Grenier (128th), emerged from the previous classification of the tournament, after two hours and a game minute.

It is worth mentioning that the 30-year-old Argentinian was up 5-4 in the first set and had three set point chances. However, he was unable to take advantage of the chances and quickly fell behind.

In the second set, the Frenchman did not give up his serve and was able to break Schwartzman’s serve in the third game to consolidate his first victory in the Spanish tournament.

With this defeat, the “Little One”, who accumulates five victories and thirteen falls in 2023, will be out of the 80 best tennis players in the world for the first time since 2016.

On the other hand, in the tournament’s women’s singles draw, the Argentine tennis player Nadia Podoroska (104th) also said goodbye quickly after losing to the German Laura Siegemund (128th), coming from the qualy, by 3-6, 6 -3 and 6-3
