In the new year, motorists will again have to pay more at petrol stations. Both diesel and Super E10 increased significantly compared to the previous week. According to a current ADAC evaluation of fuel prices in Germany, a liter of Super E10 costs 1.743 euros on average nationwide, which is 5.7 cents more than in the previous week (1.686 euros). In the case of diesel, the jump in price was somewhat smaller with an increase of 3.4 cents. A liter currently costs 1,850 euros.

With the recent increase, the price difference between the two types has narrowed somewhat. But even the current difference does not come close to reflecting the different energy tax rates. A liter of diesel costs around 20 cents less tax than a liter of Super E10. However, diesel still costs a good nine cents more.

According to the ADAC, the reasons for the renewed price increases cannot lie in the price of crude oil, as it fell slightly compared to the previous week. If you want to save at least a little when filling up, you should head for the gas station in the evening between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. If you fill up in the morning hours, you have to pay about twelve cents more on average.

Drivers can get quick and practical help with the “ADAC Fuel Prices” smartphone app, which provides the prices for almost all of the more than 14,000 petrol stations in Germany. Detailed information on the fuel market and current prices are also available at www.adac.de/tanken.
