In a context marked by a significant loss of subscribers, Disney + is preparing to make strong decisions. The CEO has just announced an upcoming rate hike in the United States. An increase which is likely to impose itself then in the whole world.

The lights are far from green for Disney+, which has just lost 4 million subscribers. Mickey’s platform remains well behind Netflix with its more than 232 million customers and Prime Video which peaks at 220 million. For its part, Disney+ currently has 157.8 million users. In India, Disney+ Hotstar suffered a massive exodus with a fall of 8%. A less significant decline was also observed in North America (-1%).

Despite this bad news, the Disney group still managed to limit its losses in the streaming sector. The average revenue per subscriber is notably up, from $5.95 to $7.14. Still, Disney is about to make some drastic decisions. Anxious to reduce its costs, the platform will in particular remove certain content from the Disney + catalog.

The service will also merge with Hulu. As a reminder, the platform is still not available to us, Hulu programs are already transiting on the Mickey platform.

Will Disney+ increase its prices in France?

Boss Robert Iger also revealed that the basic Disney+ offering will increase in the United States by the end of the year. For the record, this formula currently costs $10.99 per month across the Atlantic. This price is the result of an increase that occurred last year at the time of the deployment of the offer with Disney+ advertisements ($7.99 per month) in the country.

The big boss did not indicate whether this increase would also prevail in the rest of the world. But it’s hard to be optimistic about that, as the United States often leads the way in tariff increases. It is therefore to be feared that the increase will also have repercussions in our regions.

Already last March, Robert Iger hinted at the upcoming Disney + price increase. “In our goal to have more subscribers worldwide, we got our price list wrong. We are now starting to learn more about this to adapt (our prices)”explained the manager.
