Disturbance in the Gulf with high chances of becoming a depression or tropical storm

HOUSTON – The country’s meteorological authorities see it as imminent that in the next few hours the disturbance that moves through the central part of the Gulf of Mexico will become, at least, a tropical depression, although it is not ruled out that it will intensify its strength and become a a tropical storm.

“The AL91 system “is showing signs of organization in association with a broad area of low pressure located in the center of the Gulf of Mexico,” the National Hurricane Center (HNC) said in its most recent bulletin this month. Monday.

According to the NHC, “environmental conditions are conducive to the development of this system and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form before it hits the Gulf of Mexico coast on Tuesday.”

The meteorological authority points out that areas in southern Texas or northern Mexico “should monitor the progress of this system as tropical storm watches or warnings will be issued in the coming hours.”

This is the first system to enter the waters of the Gulf of Mexico during the 2023 hurricane season.

Currently, the chances of generating a depression or tropical storm are 80%, according to the NHC.

The temperatures of the waters of the Gulf of Mexico are so high for this time of year that any system can evolve rapidly and reach larger dimensions.

This disturbance is moving towards the western Gulf of Mexico at a speed between 15 to 20 mph.

This disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to favor rainy conditions in southern and central Texas.

In addition to this disturbance, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring four other systems over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, three of which already have names (Franklin, Gert and Emily).
