Serbia's Novak Djokovic watches as he competes against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti during their round of 16 match at the Monte Carlo ATP Masters Series Tournament on Rainier III Court at the Monte Carlo Country Club on April 11, 2024.

ROMA-. Novak Djokovic needed medical attention after he was apparently hit in the head by a water bottle following his victory Friday at the Italian Open.

A child leaned over the railing to hand Djokovic a notebook to sign when the aluminum bottle fell out of the child’s bag and hit the world’s number one player on the head, organizers confirmed.

Djokovic had a blow to the head and was checked by tournament doctors, organizers said.

The incident occurred shortly after the Serbian’s 6-3, 6-1 first-round victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet, who was coming off the qualification round.
