On Instagram, Mimi Fiedler shared a questionable message with her almost 93,000 followers, which a “fan” sent her as a direct message just in time for the turn of the year. “Hope there will be more red lipstick again in the new year,” writes the user, adding a flame emoji to his words, “otherwise you look like you’re old.” Admiration looks different – the Yugoslav native seems to think so too see and respond to the unsolicited dig with a bizarre video clip.
In her video statement, Mimi Fiedler sits very close to the camera and paints her lips and circles around her eyes with the red lipstick that was mentioned in the unfriendly message. “When you see me with my red lipstick, you’ll think: ‘My God, is Mimi hot’,” she says ironically. In the second part of the video clip, her husband Otto Steiner (59) enters the room, who seems to be well acquainted with the project: “Do you think I’m hot?” His sweetheart asks him while she looks into the camera with a playful, seductive look stares, “Do you like banging?”
Hate comments on social media
Instagram has over 1.2 billion monthly users worldwide – but many users have to endure hate and abuse on the image platform and other social media networks. According to a survey by the University of Leipzig, 24 percent of all respondents were said to have been victims of hate speech on the Internet last year – in the 16 to 22 age group even half. While Instagram is cracking down on hate comments, banning abusive accounts and imposing fines, it openly admits that tracking private messages is far more difficult. “We act on hate speech as soon as we learn of it. Meanwhile, nobody seems to understand the lipstick hate comment: “Somebody shot their brains out with firecrackers on New Year’s Eve,” rants one fan, while another laughs at the incorrect grammar of the message – “If you insult, then please proper spelling.”
Instagram tempts to reveal all facets of his private life, but unfortunately, hateful messages from so-called “admirers” cannot be avoided. Mimi Fiedler’s decision to respond to the lipstick comment with an ironic and humorous video parody instead of an angry reply is rarely seen in the celebrity world.
