At the “Dogs & Fun” fair in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen there is a competition for mixed breeds and lots of dog sports. 250 breeds are on site.

From May 12th to 14th there will be more than 6000 dogs at the Messe „Dogs & Fun“ in Dortmund to see. The 250 different breeds are judged by judges in the Westphalia Halls, as reported by the German Kennel Club (VDH) on Thursday.

Dogs from all over Europe are registered, said VDH Managing Director Leif Kopernik, but also animals from the USA, Japan and Israel, for example.

Trade fair visitors are also allowed to bring their dogs with them. The VDH sets one up for you mongrel competition off: Visitor dogs that do not belong to a specific breed can be registered directly on site. In addition to the optical condition of the dogs, basic obedience and social compatibility are also tested.






According to the VDH, it expects three days of the fair around 30,000 visitors and 2000 visiting dogs. Another main emphasis the show is at dog sport, as Kopernik reports. The couples competed in the fair’s agility competition Tickets for the World Cup. “We have the best athletes in Germany here,” announced Kopernik. According to the VDH, agility, an obstacle course for dogs, is still the most popular dog sport in Germany.


Other sports are also presented, such as dog diving, in which dogs jump as far as possible into the water from a ramp, and hoopers – a newer sport from the USA in which dogs have to overcome tunnels and gates, among other things.

“Dogs & Fun” took place for the first time in 2022 as a replacement for the “Hund & Pferd” fair. From this year both events are to take place regularly – the Dog fair in spring and the “Dog & Horse” in November.

Dogs & Fun in Dortmund: Tickets nur im Online-Shop

The dog fair is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each of the three days. There is no box office, Tickets can only be purchased online. Adults pay twelve euros (reduced nine euros), children (six to twelve years) five euros. The dogs of the visitors must be one Ireceipt Present and pay three euros entrance fee. 50 cents of a dog card go to the animal protection association Groß-Dortmund.
