Mexico City.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador postponed the activation -halfway- of the Olmeca refinery, in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, for July 1, 2023 and then concluded that to meet more production the date would be until September 15.

After a visit to the work inaugurated by himself on July 2, he indicated that there will be two new start phases.

“I visited the Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas, built in world record time. It is in the integration and testing phase; on July 1, it will begin to process 170,000 barrels of crude oil per day and on September 15, double that,” he said in his Twitter account. Twitter.

“Together, it is equivalent to 280,000 barrels per day of gasoline and diesel alone. We are advancing towards energy sovereignty,” he added in his message published along with a propaganda video.

The work budgeted at 8 billion dollars would have cost 12 billion according to the official figure and up to 20 thousand, according to independent estimates.

The federal government had promised that it would start refining this month.

After the inauguration, Nahle had promised that the Olmeca would begin refining this month.

“Yes, the commitment with the President is to try to get the first barrel in December,” Nahle said in July.

“Hopefully, I would jump. I have the information that we are going to see how the integration work is going,” López Obrador concluded on December 6, when he announced his private visit today.

The new announced date coincides with the night of “El Grito” of the Independence of Mexico.
