The Knights of the Zodiac and Dragon Ball They have been fighting for the title of the most famous manga or anime of all time for years. Akira Toriyama’s work has a slight advantage due to the order of its chronology and the continuity that he has had with Super. But Masami Kurumada’s series has elements to be at the top of the stories that come to us from the Far East.
Unlike the eternal rivalry between Marvel and DC Comics, these two series live side by side in the hearts of fans who grew up in the 1990s. Anime afternoons, at that time, meant sitting down to watch both stories, one after the other, and enjoying them with the same emotion.
A crossover between the two was never made; the anime is not used to this type of practice, although if it were to be carried out it would be total madness for the fandom of the two stories. And while it’s very hard for it to happen in canon, the fan service illustrators imagine what it would be like to combine characters from the two franchises.
Goku in gold armor from the Knights of the Zodiac
Some time ago, the talented Chilean illustrator Salmakoto made a whole series of characters from dragonball dressed in the golden cloth of Knights of the Zodiac. Therefore, at the beginning of 2023 we gave ourselves the task of not letting this story die and rescuing the armor that Goku put on.
In his illustration he dresses Kakarot as the Gold Saint of Libra. Salvamakoto chooses to award him the same one that Shiryu won. In this way he selects one of the Knights of the Zodiac of oriental origin, who is also one of the most noble in a battle; just like Goku is.
As a final detail, Goku’s design with Libra’s armor draws the image of a Master Roshi version of Dohko, Shiryu’s teacher and one of the first cloth wearers.
