Drunken American tourists climb the Eiffel Tower and fall asleep; they spent a whole night

Two inebriated American tourists spent a night at the famous Eiffel Tower last weekend, Paris authorities said.

The tourists’ adventure began last Sunday night around 10:40 p.m. local time, when drunken youth decided to climb the Eiffel Tower.

As reported by the BBC, the two men breached the security barriers as they descended; thanks to that they arrived at a normally forbidden area between the second and third levels of the tower, where they finally decided to spend the night.

In the early hours of Monday morning, security guards made a shocking discovery when they stumbled upon the duo asleep inside the Eiffel Tower.

Paris prosecutors later revealed that the men’s condition was the result of their intoxication, causing them to become trapped in their unusual resting place.

The men “appear to have gotten stuck because of how drunk they were,” prosecutors said, according to The Guardian.

Realizing the situation, the security guards sent a specialized fire unit to retrieve the tourists from their hiding place.

This operation not only attracted attention, but also caused a delay in the opening hours of the Eiffel Towerwhich usually receives visitors at 09:00.

Although their unexpected stay caused some disruption, authorities said the men posed no threat. Sete, the public operator of the Eiffel Tower, confirmed that the tourists’ actions gave rise to a criminal complaint, the BBC reports on its website.

It is worth mentioning that the previous Saturday, two bomb threats shook the Eiffel Tower, which led to the evacuation of the monument on two separate occasions, the news network adds.

French authorities have launched an investigation into the bomb threats, which can be traced back to posts on a gaming site and an online platform for communication between citizens and police.

Standing majestically at a commanding height of 984 feet and steeped in history since its construction in the 1880s, the Eiffel Tower drew an estimated 5.8 million fans the year before alone.
